P90x Training

Getting the Results That You Want From P90X Training

You have probably been hearing a lot of buzz about P90X – the workout system designed by Tony Horton. If you look at the workouts involved in the 90-day program, there really isn’t anything magical about the movements themselves.

In fact, most of the movements in the program are either derivations or combinations of conventional workouts that people have been doing for years. So what makes the P90X program so effective?

The workout program produces significant results in a very short period of time because the workouts are consistent and intense. The body is actually forced to burn more and more calories every day, and as the person’s metabolism shoots up, the body transforms into a literal calorie-burning machine.

Let me share with you a little known fact about working out that just might surprise you: the body is capable of burning tons of calories even when you are asleep.

How is this possible? The secret lies in the muscles of the body; that’s really where the action happens. When the muscles begin to develop because of increased physical activity, the body needs to burn more calories to sculpt and enlarge the muscles throughout the body.

Unfortunately, many people get the whole concept of fitness wrong. Many people think that fitness is automatically just bodybuilding. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t try bodybuilding, but I have to remind you that classic bodybuilding (which is mostly volume training and isolation exercises) was geared for muscular hypertrophy, or muscle enlargement.

Unless you really want to bulk up, and you are prepared to invest in your diet to build large muscles, bodybuilding isn’t enough to shed extra pounds.

Recent studies show that people who engage in workouts that use almost all of the body’s muscle groups burn twice as many calories, and in a shorter period of time, than those who perform less intense and more isolated muscle workouts.

This is what P90X is all about. P90X is not about making massive muscles – it’s about creating a sexy body that is both active and continually burning calories, even when the person is snoozing. To do this, the P90X system makes use of different workout sets that target major muscle groups while utilizing the entire body. So, as you target a muscle group for maximum definition, the rest of the body will also be working hard to perform the individual movements.

P90X workouts are not extremely difficult – in fact, these workouts were designed with the beginning fitness enthusiast in mind. Horton designed the system in such a way that P90X users would actually grow stronger over time, so that when they finish one phase of the program, they are completely ready to take on the next phase.

Each phase of the program becomes more and more challenging to prevent the body from thoroughly adapting to the movements. Complete adaptation to exercise movements is actually bad, because it can result in poorer weight loss. The P90X resolves this problem by adding different movements and elements in each successive phase of the program.
